The main purpose of a colonoscopy is to examine the inside of the large intestine (colon and rectum) to detect abnormalities. It helps diagnose conditions such as colon polyps, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, ulcers, bleeding, and infections. Colonoscopy is very safe, and serious complications are rare. The biggest risks include bleeding or perforation (a small tear in the colon wall), especially if a biopsy or polyp removal is done. कोलोनोस्कोपी गर्ने सबैभन्दा सामान्य कारण कोलोरेक्टल क्यान्सरको प्रारम्भिक जाँच (स्क्रिनिङ) हो। अन्य कारणहरूमा लामो समयको कब्जियत वा पातलो दिसा, दिसामा रगत देखिनु, अज्ञात पेट दुखाइ, रगतको कमी (एनिमिया) र दिसाको बानीमा आएको परिवर्तन पर्दछन्। प्रारम्भिक चरणमै समस्या पत्ता लगाउन कोलोनोस्कोपी निकै उपयोगी हुन्छ।
Recovery after colonoscopy is usually very quick. Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours. If sedation is used, rest is advised for the rest of the day, and driving should be avoided. Mild bloating, gas, or tiredness may occur but usually resolves within a day. If a biopsy or polyp removal is performed, doctors may recommend light activity and diet for a short period.
